When is it time to switch from templates to custom builds

Featured Replies

have been using templates for everything. Websites, emails, proposals. They work but I am starting to feel generic. When did you know it was time to invest in custom design and development?

I switched when my template started confusing prospects. Too many sections that did not apply to my business. A custom landing page focused on one offer converted 3x better than my multi-purpose template.

Custom makes sense when you have product-market fit and scaling revenue. Before that, templates are fine. Most people invest in custom too early and regret the expense when they pivot six months later.

I never went fully custom. I customize templates heavily. 80% template. 20% custom. Best of both worlds. Speed plus differentiation. Full custom is rarely necessary for small businesses.

I have been feeling generic but scared of custom costs. Hearing that heavy template customization is an option is relieving. What does 20% custom actually look like in practice SamC?

I have been chasing revenue goals and feeling empty when I hit them. Hearing that success can be calendar control or client respect is expanding my definition. I think I need to figure out what I actually want before I chase more.
