What steps do you usually take to develop an engaged audience?

Featured Replies

When you start writing, it often feels like the hardest part is getting people to actually read your work. Building an audience can feel a bit overwhelming in the beginning. So how do you go about building an audience, and what would you suggest for someone who is just starting out?

If I don’t get feedback on my writing, I feel like I lose connection with the reader. That’s why I usually stick to shorter pieces under 900 words until I build that sense again.

I don’t agree..you need to start building interest in your work early, or no one will know it exists later. Blog, grow a mailing list, and engage with your niche communities consistently.

The first step is finishing a project. If the work is good, even a small audience becomes much easier to find.

I mostly relied on loss leaders, free reader magnets, building a mailing list, and doing newsletter swaps.

@Calara True, I agree with that. If you wait too long, it’s harder to get noticed later
