When did you realize that office connections aren’t genuine friendships?

Many trusting people eventually realize the workplace isn’t always friendly. Over time, they learn to protect themselves and not show weakness. So what happened that made you learn this lesson

At my first job, I used to cover last-minute shifts to help out, but it was never really appreciated. Learned that early. Now I just treat work as income..stay polite, but always look out for myself.

We don’t share paychecks or bills, so I keep it professional at work. It’s strictly business..no need to force friendships.

I felt safe enough to share a personal health issue, but soon after, I was laid off.

I got sick and went from a 20 year friend to just an employee and then to unemployed.
