Custom website or solid template in 2026

Featured Replies

I am rebuilding my site and debating whether to go custom or use a solid template. Custom feels premium but templates are faster. For a service business, does it actually matter in 2026?

For most service businesses, the template wins. Your clients do not care about your custom animations. They care about whether you understand their problem. Speed to launch matters more than design awards.

I went custom and regretted it. Took six months and cost too much. Switched to a template and focused the savings on copy and photography. Conversions went up because the message was clearer.

I think the decision depends on traffic source. If you are driving cold traffic from ads, custom design helps with trust. If your leads are warm referrals, a clean template is plenty.

I am currently overthinking this exact decision. Hearing that a template plus good copy beats a custom site is making me rethink my budget.

WordPress has tons of great templates that are customizable. Many of them are free too. I played around with them enough times.

I don't think you need to do a fully custom one. If you have the money for it though and want your site to stand out more, hiring someone to do one for it could benefit you in the long run but I don't think it matters as much today.
